The piece on the left side is by Salvador Dali titled "The Metamorphosis of Narcissus," and I consider this piece to be one that makes me happy. The piece on the right is by Albrecht Durer and is titled "The Horsemen of the Apocalypse." This second piece evokes fear from me, I find it very scary. The "Narcissus" piece is one of my favorite pieces by Dali, and I love the story behind it. I love Greek myths, and this piece makes me happy also because it was one of the first paintings I worked with in my college Painting class. The "Horsemen" print is also by one of my favorite printmaking artists, but it is a piece that was designed to frighten people. This was made in the 1500's and was from the Bible story that talked about the end of the world and these were the four who each represented terrible events, War, Famine, Death, and Pestilence (or Conquest). This piece is scary because even though it's several hundred years old, it still has events that can happen in our time, war between the countries, starvation from lack of food or lack of resources, the spread of deadly disease is also frightening even though we have ways to combat a lot of diseases.

My artist is Damien Hirst. I chose this piece of artwork because of the controversy behind it. Hirst did not actually catch the shark and I think that he never even touched the shark before putting it on display as his own work. I chose to pair it with the scene from Jaws because it's a shark- and any sharks remind me of Jaws. I also think this scene is the most iconic because of the line from it.
